Alois Mikulka was born on 13 August 1933. In 1948-52 he studied at the Higher School of Art Industry in Brno. he studied monumental painting in the studio of Prof. Ján Želibský at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. He has lived and worked in Brno all his life. He has illustrated not only his own books, but also books by several important authors such as Ota Hofman, František Gellner and Jaroslava Blažková. He wrote plays, fairy tales and poems for children, made sculptures for the mother's schools, collaborated with Czechoslovak Radio and Television. He presented his work at many individual and collective institutes of fine arts and book illustration in the Czech Republic and abroad (Yugoslavia, Italy, Sweden, Germany, England, Mexico, etc.). In spite of the diversity of the fields in which he works, his work is unified and his handwriting is clearly legible, whether it is sculptures, paintings or fairy tales for children.
